Lubricant formulation

Silicone chamber oil

Match maintenance role

Regular application maintains internal pressure seals on airguns, preserving consistent valve performance without degrading rubber o-rings.

Pros & cons32

Pros

• Formulated specifically as silicone chamber oil to protect delicate airgun seals and valves
• Helps prevent high-pressure o-ring drying without risking petroleum-induced dieseling
• Sized in a compact 0.25-ounce bottle that fits easily into a match range bag

Cons

• Dedicated strictly to seal lubrication rather than metal-on-metal mechanical sliding parts
• Small 0.25-ounce volume requires careful application to avoid depleting the bottle quickly

Powerplant and caliber

CO2-powered semi-auto (.177 pellet)

Training role

Serves as an accessible .177-caliber practice gun, but rapid CO2 discharge causes velocity shifts that differ from regulated PCP rifles.

Pros & cons32

Pros

• Semi-automatic repeating action allows rapid consecutive pellet shots on practice targets
• Uses standard .177-caliber pellets matching formal target competition bore dimensions
• Operates on standard 12g CO2 powerlets without requiring high-pressure PCP charging equipment

Cons

• CO2 pressure levels drop during rapid fire or in cooler ambient conditions, shifting point of impact
• Lacks the regulated consistency and match-grade precision required for formal firing line competition

Included charging gear

High-pressure hand pump included

Competition caliber alert

Fires .22-caliber pellets rather than standard .177 competition ammunition, requiring verification against specific match sanctioning rules.

Pros & cons32

Pros

• Complete setup includes a dedicated high-pressure hand pump for self-sufficient cylinder charging
• Pre-charged pneumatic powerplant provides recoilless shooting cycles for consistent shot execution
• All-in-one kit eliminates the need to source separate high-pressure charging accessories

Cons

• Chambers .22-caliber pellets, which disqualifies it from standard .177-caliber precision 10-meter matches
• Hand pumping to high fill pressure requires physical effort between shooting sessions

Does an optic mount directly to the Crosman Challenger receiver without rail adapters?

Yes, specific optics designed for the receiver connect without adapter plates. The Hunting Scope for Crosman Challenger PCP (part number 29017) connects directly in your air rifle receiver without any modifications or adapters. It measures 7.5 inches in length and 2 inches in height while weighing 1 pound, allowing you to secure an optic for accurate target practice or hunting without adding height from aftermarket risers.

Which lubricant is safe for high-pressure PCP rifle seals?

Pure silicone oil formulated for airguns is the only safe option for internal seals. Crosman RMCOIL Silicone Chamber Oil (.25-Ounce) lubricates compression components and protects internal rubber o-rings under operating pressure. Petroleum-based lubricants must never enter high-pressure pneumatic chambers, because petroleum deteriorates synthetic seals and can cause pressure leaks or valve failures.

Can an entry PCP rifle package provide adequate practice for formal matches?

Yes, a packaged setup like the Crosman C3622SKT .22-Caliber PCP Air Rifle with Hand Pump helps marksmen learn pressure management and steady shooting pacing at home. It includes a dedicated hand pump and rifle to establish a consistent filling routine. Always verify your specific league regulations before planning match participation, because most formal target events mandate .177-caliber pellets rather than .22-caliber ammunition. Shooters who also train with a tactical air rifle should note that formal target relays require strict adherence to match equipment rules.

Can rapid-fire multi-shot magazines be used on a Challenger competition rifle?

No, high-capacity tactical magazines cannot be used on precision target platforms. The Crosman SBR Spare Magazine (part number DSFAM) features a drop-down design with a 25-round BB capacity engineered strictly for the DSBR and CFAR1B action frames. Target competition guidelines require rifled barrels firing lead pellets rather than the steel BBs used in a CO2 BB gun, and match rules generally mandate single-pellet loading.

How does a semi-automatic CO2 rifle compare to a competition PCP rifle?

A CO2 model such as the Crosman 1077 RepeatAir Semi-Automatic .177-Caliber Pellet Air Gun relies on 12-gram CO2 power, whereas competition PCP rifles use pressurized breathing air reservoirs. Rapid shooting with CO2 causes internal chill that lowers working pressure and shifts point of impact during a match relay. Dedicated PCP target rifles deliver steady air pressure behind every shot, maintaining uniform pellet velocity and tight groupings across an entire string of fire.

What caliber rules must you confirm before entering target competition?

You must confirm whether your match sanctioning body restricts entries to .177-caliber pellets or allows .22-caliber options. While models like the Crosman C3622SKT fire .22-caliber pellets, precision 10-meter sporter classes specify .177-caliber pellets to align with official scoring ring dimensions. Review your match program or club rulebook in advance to verify approved pellet calibers, stock dimensions, and loading requirements before stepping up to the firing line.
